The new dictionary has been prepared mainly for students and teachers of English. It documents the English language as it is used today and a new transcription system using the International Phonetic Alphabet covers both English and American pronounciation, it aims to analyse the meaning and gramatical behaviour of each word as clearly and accurately as possible, with special attention being paid to those areas that present particular difficulties such as phrasal verbs, idioms, collocation, verb complementation and level of farmality. There are plenty of examples and notes on usage are given wherever necessary, illustrations supplement the definitions.
