The objective of Group Field Project (GFP) is to shift the students' attention from analyzing static data to the challenging task of dynamic problem solving. The students are faced with the real situation in a project to solve a company's problem. In a sense, the project is a laboratory in which the students can apply what they have learned, while assisting the .company in finding the best solution. The company chosen here is Garuda Maintenance Facility (GMF).

The methods used to collect the data for this project are site visits, interviews with GMF's staff, guidance from GMF management, guidance from IPMI Faculty and literature survey.

Garuda Maintenance Facility or GMF is one of Strategic Business Units of PT. Garuda Indonesia, an Indonesian flag carrier airline. Besides maintaining almost all the Garuda fleet, GMF provides maintenance for other customers such as Merpati, Mandala, Pakistan International Airlines and Nigeria Airlines. However, most of the time is devoted to serve Garuda own aircraft. GMF is located at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Jakarta. The site area covers 115 hectares that are utilized for three hangars, a spares store (main warehouse), two component workshops, engine shop, engine test cell, a utility building, a ground support equipment workshop, a chemical store, an apron, taxi-ways, a run up bay, waste treatment area, and offices.

In order to allow GMF to perform its businesses more efficiently and effectively, GMF is currently planning to separate its organization structure from its parent company, PT. Garuda Indonesia.
