At the turn of the century rapid economic, technological and political changes are the order of the day. A right mixture of these changes will certainly benefit all of us. But, basically these changes present banking industry with both challenges and opportunities. In the occurrence of swift changes, banks should do their best to transform new challenges to opportunities.
Bank Niaga is very much aware of these swift changes, especially in anticipating more fierce competition facing the agreed upon Asean Free Trade Area and Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation.
The project assigned by Bank Niaga was to develop a Strategic Scenario.
Planning which intended to give a vision on how Bank Niaga should positioned itself at years beyond 2000. There are many External and Internal Forces which drive the process for fundamental changes in the Banking Industry Structure, including Bank Niaga itself. The External Forces are the Indonesian Macroeconomics, Social, Technological Factors and the World Development. The Internal Forces consist of Bank Niaga's Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats.
Our study is focused on technology as the driving forces, since technology is one of the most important forces that is reshaping the banking industry for the year 2000.
Whereas for Internal Forces itself we limited our scope of study by emphasizing on Bank Niaga's Consumer Banking Sector, which includes its Consumer Banking Products. An analysis of Bank Niaga's current competitive position is conducted based on a Market Survey on Consumer's Product Preferences in relation to technology Changes.
