Coal mining businesses in Indonesia growing rapidly in a recent year. Especially during the global crisis, the Indonesian Government made a stimulus policy to build many Steam Power Plant in several areas. Many companies are improving to become more competitive. In order to increase competitiveness, most company concern to improve the operations process.
Coal ming operations process is a complex and resource-hungry operations. To simplify the operation, coal mining companies outsource some of its work and processes. With outsourcing some of process, the company can focus on its core activity and competencies in order to increase volume, efficiency, and other strategic goals.
Therefore, coal ming companies need to consider which work and processes to be outsourced and conduct an outsourcing strategy analysis before take decisions, in order to achieve their outsourcing goals.
PT Bukit Asam is a coal mining company, which operating 3 coal mining sites in Sumatra and manages up to 3500 outsourcing people. Some problems arise because lack of outsourcing strategy analysis and risk management.
This capita selecta try to analyze the way PT Bukit Asam manage its outsourcing people/companies and propose some solutions to overcome the problem of outsourcing in PTBA.
