The Indonesian tire industry today consists of 10 companies with 15 plants in the Sumatra and Jawa islands. Out of the 15 plants, 7 are producing automobile tires, with the rest producing motorcycle and bycycle tires. Of the 10 companies operating in Indonesia, 5 of them have a dominate role in the automobile tire market. These companies are :
1. PT Goodyear Indonesia
2. PT Bridgestone Tire Indonesia.
3. PT Gajah Tunggal
4. Dunlop Indonesia
5. PT. Intirub
PT Biridgestone Tire Indonesia currently is the market leader with a total market share in 1984 of 34.4% followed by PT Goodyear Indonesia with 26.6%, PT Gajah Tunggal with 16.7% PT Intirub with 14.5% and PT Dunlop Indonesia with 2.8%.
