In the last decade, the world has endured various natural disasters raging
from violent tsunamis, flash flooding, and the less perceivable yet destructive turbo
capitalism, corrupt government bodies, and irresponsible consumption that has
taken advantage of the earth’s natural environment and social health. As drivers of
the economy, public and private businesses play a major role in taking
responsibilities of their operational impact on the planet. With growing access to
the internet and quality publications, awareness and demand begins to shift from
scarcity to sustainability. More and more businesses are being held accountable for
unsustainable business practices. The subject of responsible business practices has
risen into the forefront of corporate concerns. Key stakeholder begins to pressure
governments and multinational corporations to implement regulations and kick start
the journey towards a more sustainable economy, environment and social expanse.
This study explored the extent to which sustainable business practices are
implemented by firms in various industries within the Indonesian economy. This
study examined the key motivations behind the adoption of sustainable business
practices, the conditions that supports the successful implementation of
sustainability management, the barriers that inhibits companies from sustainability
as well as the impacts of sustainable business practices on competitive performance
