Supporting the Development of High School Students’ Research Skills in Bojonegoro

Based on UNESCO research in 2012 claimed that there was an unpreparedness of high school students in Indonesia over the various issues that emerged and developed nowadays. In collaboration with EMCL (ExxonMobil Cepu Limited), this condition was then followed up by Yayasan Sedulur Pena by introducing a good, standard and true scientific research process through the program SIyAP (Siswa Ilmiah yang Aktif dan Produktif). The program lasted 4 months, starting from August 2017 until November 2017, at Bojonegoro Regency. This program involved six phases, which were related to each other and the final purpose we were trying to seize was to develop students’ creativities, knowledge, and communication skill through discussion, debates, and scientific presentation that can give impacts to society.After 6 weeks doing the scientific research, the students had to write and present their final researches results. In this project, IPMI coaches had the responsibilities to guide them in the report making and the academic writing itself.Hereafter, all SIyAP committee and coaches evaluated the whole program through survey that filled by all the program participants. Evaluation was also held through discussion with all of the program committee and coaches. Through the evaluation program SIyAP 2017 had been able to build awareness and understanding among Bojonegoro students about the importance of leadership and scientific research. This is considered a trigger for the positive developments of curiosity among Bojonegoro students to the various things that exist around it.
