Based on the statistics of Indonesian domestic waste, the amount of plastic waste which reaches 5.4 million tons per year is only 14% of the total waste production in Indonesia. Indonesia is ranked second in the world producing plastic waste to the sea which reached 187.2 million tons after China which reached 262.9 million tons. In third place are the Philippines which produces 83.4 million tons of plastic waste into the sea.
Circulaction, a Non-Governmental Organization initiated by a collective of people who are willing to implement the concept of Circular Economy, adopted the #KitaPilah Program alongside the CIP members. #KitaPilah program aims not only to educate, but also to shape the habit of segregating waste. For the #KitaPilah Educational Program, Circulaction has partnered with various schools from SD-SMP-SMA-SMK to launch their educational program, along with Waste Banks to manage the waste from the Kotak Pilah that will be provided by Circulaction for each of these partnered schools. Over the next three years, #KitaPilah program will be partnering with 4,000 schools or around 88% of schools in DKI Jakarta and more than 400 waste banks.
The pre-launching stage of the program involves the planning and data collection from various schools in Indonesia. During the launching stage, the CIP members need to conduct an educational program, survey the students to measure the impact and visit the waste bank. For the post-launching stage, The CIP members will need to compile their findings into reports to conclude the impacts of the program.
