Uncertainly and disruption have threatened the sustainability and survivability in the food and beverage industry (F&B). PT XYZ, one of the largest F&B firm in Indonesia, was exposed to these threats in supply chain activities such as inventory stock disruptions and material shortages, but has shown excellent ability to overcome the crisis compared to its competitors. Focusing on resource-based and knowledge-based views, this study explores whether intellectual capital (IC) influences corporate sustainability (CS) at PT XYZ during the crisis. In addition, it was also examined the mediating role of absorptive capacity (AC) and supply chain agility (SCA) on corporate sustainability. Data was collected using a survey on 280 respondents and tested using the partial least squares approach. Semi-structured interviews were also conducted to enrich the findings. The results show : (i) IC has a positive effect on CS; and (ii) both AC and SCA significantly mediate the IC-CS relationship at PT XYZ. Thus, sustainability must consider AC and SC as mediating effects. The results suggest that firms should consider to invest for more sophisticated digital systems, such as big data and machine learning. Enterprise resource planning (ERP) and material requirements planning (MRP)can encourage SCA and improve efficiency. Firms should also improve the capacity of Human Capital such as training and up-scaling skills programs. Future research can adopt the model developed in this study on panel data from several firms with a larger sample size. Further research can also consider new variables such as organizational ambidexterity and supply chain resilience.
