PT Unilever Indonesia, Tbk. (ULI) is a multinational company, which has established in Indonesia for more than 70 years. As a 900 million-dollar revenue public fast-moving consumer-goods company (FMCG) growing at average 15% p.a., ULI is facing high level of complexity due to intense competition and rapid change of external factors. Advancement in information technology, which shortens product and process life cycle than before, brings changes to industrial as well as consumer behavior.

To be able to cope with the above complexities as well as to maintain double-digit growth, ULI gives significant attention to its most valuable assets: brand and people. From time to time, ULI keeps searching for better ways to continuously develop and enhance these valuable assets. One way is through Projects Management (Projects). Furthermore, ULI is currently driving new thrust called 'Enterprise for Growth' to stimulate and encourage people to explore opportunities beyond current norms in order to expand company business. One of the thrusts is "Diversity" which gives endorsement to coordination of cross-functional activities and expertise, which basically is the nature of Project Management. It is very clear that Project Management is very much needed to be in line with company strategy.

This study intends to fulfill IPMI's requirement in completing post-graduate program started in July 2002 and earning Magister ManagementlMaster of Business Administration (MM/MBA) degree. This short study is conducted to learn how Unilever Indonesia manages the Project, in term of organization structure, Project Management process, and people (resources profiling and rewarding system). It is aimed to provide solution proposal of a sustainable Project Organization and recommend effective Project Management system best fits to Unilever Indonesia.

This study is conducted based on Project Management theories, interview with Unilever Project Leaders and Management to identify the issues and challenges, as well as benchmarking. Benchmarking study is conducted with two companies, which the Group believe have good practices in Project Management. The companies are Bank Central Asia and General Electric.
