This group field project report has been prepared by students of GROUP-4 :EXECUTIVE CLASS OF JULY 2003, as a prerequisite for the conclusion of our lost-graduate program study at IPMI.

The group had chosen the life insurance business as the subject, and PT ASURANSI JIWA ADISARANA WANA ARTHA (WanaArtha Life) as the object of he project study. Within the broad subject of life insurance, and the multiple Iperational dimensions of WanaArtha Life, the group has further concentrated its ield study on the company's medium and long term strategic business plans. Hence the project report title: "WanaArtha : A Strategic Positioning in a Competitive Market".

The study covers the review and assessment of the company's strategic business pIans for the period 2004 -2009, and comparing it with standard planning and Jecision models that are presently known, and also variably benchmarking it to he best-practices in the industry.

In reviewing the internal core competencies, and competitiveness of the company in their external environment, we concluded that specific design itructure dimension of the object company may have to be reorganized to enhance the existing value chain, establish a firm cost effective control system, and better identify its strategic positioning in the market.

We have identified several key drivers (key success indicators), to the management control framework, that would be necessary to implement effective action programs to accomplish the company's mission and objectives. Our recommendations have been presented to enable the management of the company to follow through on these critical issues.

In undertaking this project study, we have stated that several limiting factors lave not made it possible to do thorough research, statistical testing, and comprehensive investigations on the subject, and object, under study. However, the available data and information obtained from the company, and other relevant sources, have been sufficient foundation for extracting the conclusions at the end of our study. .
