Kembara Bhinneka program came about from the concern regarding the intolerance issues in Indonesia and how it is being perpetuated through social media. Due to the diverse nature of the nation, it is important to build an understanding of tolerance as an appreciation of difference, a step beyond looking at tolerance as an acceptance of difference. With so many different cultures, lifestyles, local wisdom, existing prejudices and personal biases, merely accepting the existence of difference without having a deeper understanding that other beliefs should be seen as equally valuable, the tolerance is prone to be broken by ill intentions, hoaxes or even hearsays. This project aims to promote diversity through storytelling on social media by covering authentic stories of local people in different regions of Indonesia and at the same time to build a critical thinking skill among the online community through a critical thinking workshop to promote peace. The workshop facilitated the audience to practice giving opinions of a differing nature while remaining respectful. The storytelling content managed to compel and engage the audience, providing them without knowledge and platform for discussion on sensitive topics. Discussing instead of avoiding these topics are the first steps towards appreciating the difference. Hence both storytelling content and the workshop prepare the community to move towards a better understanding of tolerance.
